DESCRIPTION

The course “About the Alzheimer Café and How to Help” is for participants who want to learn more about an Alzheimer Café and how to properly run their own Café. The course also offers participants a core understanding about dementia and living with dementia.

This course encourages participants to consider the various types of hidden support that are provided at an Alzheimer Café, their role in this or choosing what best suits their skills. Further, it explores how the participant’s awareness, communication, encouragement, and inclusion can help Alzheimer Café guests.

An Alzheimer Café is a post-diagnostic, group support and dementia education intervention, for people with dementia, their family carers. An Alzheimer Café is held monthly by a steering group, professionals and volunteers. It is held in a safe, café-like environment, intended to be ‘low – threshold’ – safe to enter and attend.

Presented by Dr. Gemma M Jones, current and founding Chair of the Alzheimer Café UK.
