DESCRIPTION
This two-day dementia master class aims to develop a core knowledge base about dementia and dementia care (vocabulary, concepts, models, examples). The course uncovers key aspects of the developing knowledge for professional dementia care to provide a conceptual framework for understanding dementing illnesses, behavioural changes and the range of options for care, communication, and environmental intervention.
This course is based on the assumption that all behaviour has meaning, home is a feeling – not just a place, and a caregiver’s presence is often symbolic. This course provides accurate information about dementing illnesses, to help reduce the stigma and fear of dementia, and to improve the care for people with dementia and their carers
This master class has been attended by a wide audience, ranging from nurses and personal care workers, to social workers and pastors.
Presented by Dr. Gemma M Jones, current and founding Chair of the Alzheimer Café UK.
